Gaura is a truly unique specimen. Native to North America, they are seen taking over prairies and grasslands. Their clumping habit almost makes them appear like thickets. The stems appear leafless, but sport them on the lower part of their body creating the thicket look. The blooms themselves clump and face in one general direction, usually upward. Gaura blooms display a wide openness helping the long stamen protrude giving the bloom and even more intriguing look and texture to the landscape.
With a late summer to mid-fall bloom time, this perennial is the perfect pair to an early-blooming plant. Stack this with a lighter, or darker depending on the variety, bloom and sit back and enjoy the floral showdown. This plant is one you have to have in your landscape.
